About

I am passionate about education, teaching, learning, academia and the pastoral wellbeing of children aged 4 to 11. In 2007, I completed my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification in Thailand whereby I taught in schools across Bangkok, this is where found my love for teaching and learning. I returned to the UK to complete my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Newcastle University. I have had the privilege of teaching in schools in both the independent and state section, whereby I have taught across the primary age range. I have experience in both key stage 1 and key stage 2 SATs, experience as Assistant Head Teacher and have lead subjects such as English, mathematics, science, geography and personal, social, health education (PSHE).

My philosophy of education focuses on each child and their individual educational needs: the teaching strategies to help the child achieve their highest potential, the development of positive character traits which are essential in becoming a productive citizen in today’s society; and parental involvement in their child’s mental, physical and emotional development. The most important concept, which I recognise, is the uniqueness of each individual child and their educational needs. I make it my personal mission to seek out every child’s strengths and areas for development so that I can facilitate independent challenge and create a nurturing environment.

My Passion

I endeavour to instil a passion for learning by supporting individuals to recognise their self- awareness. This sets a good foundation for the children to build on through every aspect of their lives. Being a creative individual, I enjoy developing tutoring lessons – tailoring each individual session to the child. Firstly, I aim to create the right type of learning environment – happy, safe and inclusive yet challenging. Secondly, I use techniques such as Assessment for Learning to understand where individual pupils are in the learning process versus the required standards. With the individual’s needs in mind, I am best able to bespoke the lessons appealing to the pupils preferred method of learning thereby improving effectiveness. I achieve this through engaging pupils by adapting teaching styles, such as visual, auditory or kinaesthetic. For example, when learning addition strategies, children may prefer the visual number line method, the logical partition method or the column method – using models or translate the information into diagrams, if a kinaesthetic learner. I am proactive in obtaining feedback from all stakeholders and looping this back into the lessons in order for accelerated progress to take place. By engaging pupils they feel more empowered and motivated to succeed.

My Goals

I have successful experience and a clear understanding of teaching within primary state schools, independent preparatory and pre- preparatory age ranges, and I have coordinated whole school curriculums ages 4 to 11. I have vast experience in teaching and excellent working curriculum knowledge in early years foundation stage, key stage one and key stage two, and I am confident in teaching any year group within the primary age school range. Alongside my experience in senior leadership as Assistant Head Teacher, I have a wealth of experience in leading curriculum subjects such as English, mathematics, science and personal, social, health education alongside being in the classroom. I offer a broad and balanced curriculum for children attending tutoring lessons, which is differentiated to meet the individual needs and abilities and is designed to be inclusive. Focusing on extending the more able individuals and supporting children with needs to gain confidence to enjoy learning and make progress. I ensure that every child should reach their full potential while on their learning journey at Whiz Kidz Private Tutoring.
